The camp kitchen

Worked on my camp kitchen today. Basically it's a 24 oz sauce can. Some flashing and some rabbit wire.
The soup can is my pot, flashing is a wind screen and the bunny wire is the pot stand.
Still haven't got to town to get fuel to test the stoves...maybe next year.
Figured I could still make up the stand and windscreen and adjust them later to whatever stove I decide on.

All nested together.

The pot, the stove, stand and windscreen.

Everything seperated.

Stove with stand and the pot on it. Windscreen assembled.

All put together.

Training grounds

Just a few pics of where I have been training at.
    1) going down my drive
    2) at the fence line
    3) the hill...which is steeper than it looks in the pic.
    4) cattle pond with cow bones
    5) place to take a break
    6) and some fresh coyote scat to bring us to a close.

Travel plans

Well, spent yesterday trying to figure out how I'm getting to the trailhead.  Looks like Greyhound is the way to go. (cause I'm cheap).
Can bus into Atlanta from Holbrook, AZ for $100.00 but then the shuttle's I could find ran around $80.00 to get me to the trailhead. ( to steep for me)
So it looks like I'll go into Gainesville, GA for $109.00. Shuttles were still pricey but not so far to hitch.
Of course if anyone is going to be in that area around the middle of April and wants to take me to the trailhead...hint..hint..I can bus to anywhere in that same area for about the same price. ( that Greyhound goes to...no trailways out of az)
Still also working on the critter care. Had a person that was going to house sit, but that fell thru. So still stressing over that.
Most who do the trail spend about $5000.00 but I have to do it for way less than that. Hopefully things work out...in the meantime it's time to put on the daypack ( which is 10#,s filled with books for weight) and go do my 6 miles. (I'll take some pics of where I train)

The hiking plan??

Weeell the tentative plan is to start hiking around the middle of April.  I plan to start at springer mt. In Georgia (I'll do the approach trail from Amicalola Falls) and head north to Mt. Katahdin in Maine.
The "plan" is that it should take me about 5 months...meaning I have to average around 15 miles per day.
However the "plan" is extremely susceptible to change. Still working on the logistics and financestics.
Probably next I'll try to answer the question...why hike it?
     So long for now.

Once I test them out I'll post some pics with them burning.

Stoves

Been working on some homemade alcohol stoves but haven't been able to test them yet as I have no fuel.
Thought it fitting to make alcohol stoves out of beer cans. I'll test them out once I get some fuel.
Anyway here's what they look like...
